Edith Kernerman

Edith Kernerman (she/her) is a Canadian-born artist working in sculpture installation, painting, photography, drawing, mixed media, and digital drawing and collage. She obtained her AOCA in Sculpture, Drawing/Painting from the Ontario College of Art in 1989 and studied at St. Martin’s School of Art in London, UK, in 1985-86. As well, she completed a year of Art History at the University of Toronto in 1985. Kernerman has had solo exhibitions at various institutions, including Lonsdale Gallery in Toronto, PBO Fine Art in Brooklyn, and BluePrint Festival for Caribana. She has exhibited in group shows in Canada, USA, UK, and Hong Kong. Group exhibitions include Brouhaha; Gift of Friendship at the Chinese Cultural Centre; Moose in the City at CFRB Radio; and The Marriage Installation at Toronto’s Theatre Centre. Kernerman has been invited to exhibit in the upcoming Personal Structures Biennial Art Exhibition in Venice, Italy in 2024. She has received awards, scholarships, and grants including OSG, Laidlaw Foundation Grant, and Canada Council Grant. Her artwork is held in collections around the world, including the Gerry & Nancy Pencer Brain Trust/Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto, and Ohel Moishe Museum in Shanghai.

Kernerman has been the director /lead instructor at ArtStage School of Art, a drawing instructor at OCAD’s Outreach Program, and has taught Master Classes for Private Institutions in Toronto and New York.

Currently, Kernerman has been working on the Fragmented Memory/Fractured Past Series. She has been creating small maquettes and life-sized pieces for an Installation in February 2024, in support of Little Warriors, a Canadian Charity supporting and educating survivors of child sexual abuse.
